AUBURN 1835

Auburn, WA| 2014

The project consisted of a new retail building in what had previously been a large parking lot for two other existing one-story buildings located on the site. The existing buildings were also to be updated to reflect the design style of the new structure. The new 4,200 sf retail building included a raised corner roof to address the busy adjacent street, but the building itself was oriented south facing towards a new pedestrian plaza. An open gap fiber cement panel and Red Balau rainscreen were used for the siding system. Glazing was maximized on the south side of the building to connect the new spaces with the plaza, while overhangs and a canopy were used to reduce glare inside the spaces. For the existing building, the same fiber cement panels were used in the fascia and new storefront installed.
